Hi, can I be cheeky and ask how well you do selliong goat meat?? I am considering starting with goats and wondered what the market was like. Don't worry, I am in North Yorkshire, miles away from you :D :D . Also, do you milk them or is it just meat??

Any help and advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

Hi chicken feed can I ask a couple of questions as well please?
Living around London most of my life the only time I saw goat for sale was in some dodgy looking butcher type shops or being sold as a goat meat curry and having never tried goat in all my 53 years what does it taste like? a bit like lamb / mutton?
Do you hang it like other meat to produce a better flaver?
What age are they best for the pot? I assume younger is more tender meat and older means more cooking time.

Tony.

hi it is not the quickest seller of all the meats but is getting easier.

the kids go about 6-8 months and are a bit like lamb but less fatty much healthier than other red meats it is killed hung and cut as lamb would be.

we also eat older goats they just have a stronger taste the goatlings are cooked as hogget and we tend to mince the milkers.

i dont milk my goats as i only keep meat stock but mum has milked her show goats for over 40 years now.

anymore questions just ask.

the goats are all ordered now

;) this years goat meat will come from a selection of breeds including AN's, BS x & BT's

we use the dairy breeds as its a way of not culling new born males that are unwanted.

i am looking into boer goats but this would have to be well into the future as the boer's are still expensive so it would not be very cost effective to try and sell the meat.
