Ecofan

Postby daft ann on Tue Feb 02, 2010 3:08 pm

I've just been reading the article about log burners in the March HF and am interested in the Ecofan. We have a log burner and free fuel for it which is fantastic!! Just wondering if anyone has an Ecofan, what they think of it and are they worth the money (had quick look on internet & they're about £120). The burner we have does a great job of heating the house except the single storey kitchen extension which is cold,we have central heating but when you have a free supply of wood you don't use gas!! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

our local fire shop sells them in Newport in Shropshire. they are about the price you said, the sales person says that they are really good - well they would woundnt they. They have one running on a display fire in the shop and i cant see any difference personally, but then again it mught be that the shop is sooo hot anyways with threee log burners on the go that i might not notice anyways.

We have had one for years and it does the job well. Our woodburner is in a quite enclosed old chimney and the heat used to sit in the space above the burner and never sem to flow round the house, got one of these fans and put it on the burner and now it is noticeable the difference with the heat being moved(not actually blown I would say) round the room. They are pricey, but work in our situation

I saw one of the recently and have racked my brain as to how they work as they seem to have no moving parts except the fan, does anyone know how they convert the heat into current to drive the fan. If you do it may be a project for the dark winter nights up here.

I think it works by the updraught of the heat turns the fan and so blows the warm air. Friends of mine have one in their caravan and works well.
